La Negra is a Trintella IV, built in 1974 by Trintella and Tyler. The designer was E.G. van de Stadt, a well known boat designer. La Negra is a 40' (12,20m) ketch, with a center cockpit, with about 90 squaremeter sailplan. She is a longkeeler which has advantages and disadvantages: she is solid and well on course in all conditions but does not like to go a straight line in reverse, nor does she like to go high up the wind. She has a draft of 1,70m and beam of 3,50m. She is equipped with all the necessary gadgets an ocean going boat needs and some luxury a live-aboard needs – biggest luxury is a washing machine and an electric toilet. She is not the fastest boat in the oceans, but we can get her easily up to 8kn, in average we count with 5-5,5kn.
She is steady and solid, handles strong weather very well and gives us always a secure and safe feeling. She houses a 72hp Mercedes Sole Diesel engine, which is not the newest but trustworthy.
She carries a dingy which we call "Totoro" with an 5ph Mercury outboard engine and a Vespa which we call "The donkey". She comfortably has room for 4 people, 2 sleep in the front cabin and 2 in the aft cabin.
She is equipped with a wind-generator and solar panels, which make her independent of any shore power (exept the washing machine).
Here are some pics of the inside of La Negra.
