Castellammare del Golfo is originally a fishing village. Every morning the fishermen come in from the sea and sell their catch off the pier or deliver it to the local restaurants.

All along the pier there are piles of fishing nets and rows of men mending their nets and caring for their boats and equipment.

And, where there is fish, there are cats. Opposite the fishing pier is a cliff where the city lays upon, and on every little shelf and every little hole or cave in the cliffs there is a cat or more laying in the sun, half asleep, half awake, keeping an eye on the fishermen and waiting for their lunch.
